Osmanlı tarih deyimleri ve terimleri sözlüğü'ndeki askerî terimler

Abstract

Türklerin tarih sahnesine çıktığı ilk andan itibaren Türklük ve askerlik âdeta eş anlamda kullanılır olmuştur. Askerliğin bir millet hayatında bu kadar etkili ve sürekli olduğu bir başka millet göstermek neredeyse imkânsızdır. Askerliğin Türklerde hem vazife hem de kutsallık boyutu vardır. Vazife boyutunu “Türk milleti doğuştan askerdir.” sözü; kutsallık boyutunu da “Asker ocağı, peygamber ocağıdır.” sözü ifâde eder. Bir milletin hayatına böylesine nüfûz etmiş bir meselenin derinlemesine araştırılması da kaçınılmazdı. Konu ile ilgili pek çok çalışma var. Ancak bu çalışmaların yeterli olduğunu söylemek mümkün değildir. Bu araştırmada esas alınan ve içinde askerî terimlerin seçildiği kitap Mehmet Zeki PAKALIN’ın “Osmanlı Tarih Deyimleri ve Terimleri Sözlüğü”dür. Bu terimler yapı, anlam ve köken bakımlarından incelenmiştir. Türkçe terimlerin yanı sıra yabancı dillerden geçmiş terimler de incelenmiştir. Özellikle Arapça ve Farsça kökenli kelimelerin çokluğu göze çarpmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın başta Türk Dili olmak üzere Türk Askerî Tarihi, Türk Halk Bilimi ve Türk Bilim Tarihi alanlarında da faydalı olabileceğini düşünmekteyiz.

As from the time of Turks appear in the early stage of history, the Turkishness and the military service has been used as synonym. It is nearly impossible to see any another nation that the military service is so effective and timely in the life of a nation. Military service has both the perspective of duty and the spiritial perspective in Turks. The duty stands for “Turkish nation is born soldier.” and sacredness stands for “Place of military service is the place of prophet.” It is inevitable to examine an issue in-depth that has so permeated the life of a nation. There are many studies about this issue. However it is impossible to say that these studies are sufficient. The subject of this study is the book “Ottoman history idioms and terms glossary” of Mehmet Zeki PAKALIN of which military service terms were selected. These terms have been reviewed in terms of structure, meaning and origin. In addition to Turkish terms, the foreign origin terms have also been reviewed. Especially the multiplicity of Arabic and Persian origin words stands out. We think that this study may be useful in the fields of particularly the Turkish language, Turkish military history, Turkish folklore and Turkish history of science.
